Love Fall?

Hi! Today I am hopping with the Stamp It! Group for a Halloween/Fall themed hop!

I came across this fun and easy fold and thought I’d share it with you today for my fall card.

Lovely as a Tree, StampItHop, Fall, Painted Autumn, Stampin' Up!, SU!

I used Lovely as a Tree for my center panel giving it fall colors.  I colored directly with markers on the stamp, then used a blender pen and ink to fill in the trunk and grass.  The birds are hand drawn with a marker.   I sponged a bit of Soft Sky around the tree.   The sentiment is from One Big Meaning.  I colored the Thank You with the Cajun Craze marker so that I could omit the other words on the stamp.  The acorns are from Painted Harvest and stamped in Crumb Cake for the nut and Early Espresso for the top.

The Designer Paper on the outside is from the Painted Autumn Designer Series pack.  The inside panels are from the Wood Textures Designer Series stack.

So, how do you make the card.  Here are the directions:

  1. Base: 4 1/4″ x 8″ – score at 1 1/4″, 2 1/2″, 5 1/2″ and 6 3/4″
  2. Fold down on the 1 1/4″ and 6 3/4″ score lines and up on the other two.
  3. Designer Series Paper Panels measure 1″ x 4″.
  4. The center image panel is 2 1/2 x 3 3/4.  The Cajun Craze mat is 2 3/4 x 4″.
  5. The sentiment panel is 1″ x 5 1/4″. The Early Espresso mat is 1 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.
  6. To attach the bridge, lay the card so it is folded on the left hand side but flat on the right hand side.  See picture below.
  7. Apply Tear & Tape to just the two ends of the bridge so that the card can move and stand upright.
  8. The size of the card allows for mailing in our standard card envelopes.

I hope you like my card!

Fun Fold Time!

Hi! Today I have a fun fold for you!  It’s called the Diagonal Gate Fold!

Fancy Fold, Flower Shop, Happy Birthday Gorgeous, SU!, Stampin' Up!, Technique, Tutorial

Isn’t it cool?  Here it is open:

Fancy Fold, Flower Shop, Happy Birthday Gorgeous, SU!, Stampin' Up!, Technique, Tutorial

Want to know how to do it?  Here is a photo tutorial for you!

Supplies:

  • Base: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/4″  (Yes – 8 1/4″!!)
  • Layers: 2 1/2″ x 5 1/8″ (Need 2)
  • Designer Series Paper: 2 1/4″ x 4 7/8″ (Need 2)
  • Whisper White: 2 5/8″ x 5 3/8″ (Need 1 for inside of card)

Step 1:  Score the base piece at 2 3/4″ and 5 1/2″ on the 8 1/4″ side:

Step 2: Score the base from the top left corner to the bottom of the 2 3/4″ score line:

Step 3:  Slide the paper over and score from the top of the 5 1/2″ score line to the bottom right corner:

When you are done scoring, your base should look like this:

Step 4: Fold back on the diagonal score lines:

Step 5: Fold in on the straight score lines:

Your diagonal lines should meet in the middle.

Step 6: Cut one piece of Designer Series Paper and one layer from the top left to the bottom right corner:

Step 7: Cut the second piece of Designer Series Paper and the second layer from the top right corner to the bottom left corner:

After cutting your layers, you should have this:

Step 8: Adhere the Designer Series Paper to the mat layers with Snail Adhesive

Step 9: Adhere the pieces that were cut from the top right to the bottom left (those on the right in the picture above) to the panels that are under the diagonal flaps:

Step 10: Adhere the pieces that were cut from the top left to the bottom right (those on the left side of the picture above) to the panels on top:

Step 11: Decorate card as desired.  Just make sure when attaching the front images, you only attach to one side of the diagonal flap so that the card can still be opened.  For my card, the flower was adhered to the left panel and the Happy Birthday banner was attached to the right panel.

Step 12: Decorate and adhere the Whisper White panel to the inside of the card:

For my card, I used Flower Shop and coordinating punch for the front.  On the inside, I used the new Happy Birthday Gorgeous set.  So fun!   The colors are Soft Sky, Tranquil Tide and Powder Pink.  The Duo Banner punch was used for the front sentiment.

I’d love to know what you think of the photo tutorial!  And if you give this a try – I’d love to see what you come up with!

I Scream, You Scream

We all scream for Ice Cream!!  Where did that come from?  It was popped into my head  when I started this post for today.  My Waterfall Ice Cream card!

SU! Stampin' Up! Sprinkles of Life, Waterfall Card

On Saturday, I am hosting a class featuring Waterfall Cards – and this is one of the cards we will be doing.  I love how it turned out and hope the attendees do as well.

When you pull on the string at the bottom, the scoops of ice cream flip up:

And again:

This also reveals the rest of the sentiment!

I used the directions found here with one slight adjustment – my colored squares are only 1 3/4 x 2″ as I wanted the scoops closer together and 2″ in height left too much blank space for me.

Birthday Candles

Hi!  Today I have a card to share with you that I made using the Birthday Brights Project Kit in the Occasions Catalog.

SU! Birthday Brights Project Kit, Birthday Bright

I love shaker cards – they are fun and easy to make with the new foam strips that we sell.  Not to mention, the fun the recipient has when they open the card and shake it up!  This card is made following the directions in the kit – I always like to make one the way it is intended.  I’ll change up some of the others to share with you another day.

The kit contains the confetti for the shaker card as well as the die cut glitter birthday.  Stamps, inks and adhesives are NOT included in the kit.   I did purchase the stamp set as well – because it is very versatile on its own and I can see using it for other cards besides the kit.   What I love about the kit, how quick it is to make the card.  There are just times when we don’t have a lot of time to sit and create, so having this kit on hand makes it easy to whip up a fun card!

If you wish to give this kit a try – just click on the icon below to be taken to my on-line store.  Don’t forget, we are still Sale-A-Brating this month – so your $50 purchase gets you a FREE item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog.

It’s Another…

Shaker card!  Are you surprised?  Ok – one more shaker card for you and then I promise to move on to something else.

SU! Balloon Celebrations

I really love how elegant this card looks – but still a little bit of fun with the shaker element.  I do have a wedding to attend this fall – and this might just be the card I use for the bride and groom.  The metallic sequins inside the heart also contain little heart shaped sequins.

The heart itself is outlined with the Wink of Stella glitter pen.  The sentiment is from the Balloon Celebrations stamp set.  A clean but fun card!

We are just 1 week away from the end of the month – and that means a few things:

  1. Only 1 week left to use those Bonus Day Coupons!!
  2. Only 1 week left to purchase the Thoughtful Branches stamp set and dies!  Did you see my previous post that showed 2 cards using features from that bundle?
  3. The Holiday Catalog goes live in 8 days!  Get ready for some fun fall and Christmas ideas!

Still Shaking

Hi!  Back today with two more shaker cards – both of these cards feature elements from the Thoughtful Branches bundle (which is only available through August 31st – so DON’T MISS OUT!!)

First up – using the stamp set – this Christmas Card:

SU! Thoughtful Branches

This is so quick and easy to make – the photopolymer stamps make it easy to line up the branches with the trunk in this two step stamping.  The snow in the window is a sneak peek of a product that will be available on September 1 when the new Holiday Catalog debuts called Mica Flakes – you get 3 different colors!  Love how the layering dies made it so easy to make the Garden Green oval border – I just nested the smaller oval inside the big one and ran through the Big Shot once!  I also embossed the outside panel with the Gently Falling embossing folder.

Next up – using one of the dies in the bundle:

SU! Seaside Shore, Thoughtful Branches die

Do you see it?  Yes! The coral in the lower left!  This is actually part of the tree die cut down to make coral! How clever is that?  More uses than just a tree.  The background was embossed using the Seaside embossing folder.  The fish is stamped in Dapper Denim and hand cut.  The background designer paper in the shaker window is from the By the Shore Designer paper.

We used sand and shells from a local craft store for our filler.

A few tips shared by the Shaker Class attendees:

  1. The Foam Adhesive strips are very easy to manipulate and you can actually form a complete circle with one strip for the fish card – makes it easier to keep the fill inside.  Start at the top of the hole tho – to keep where there might be a little gap – less likely for the fill to fall out.
  2. For the tree card – one attendee suggested just using light pencil marks to mark the top and bottom of the oval on the panel used for stamping so that you don’t accidentally get ink on the front panel.  I thought this wise – saves from smudging the front of your card.
  3. To make it easier to fill the tree card – adhere all but the top of the back panel and slowly pour the fill down the opening – this creates less of a mess and is easy for you to see if you have enough snow for the bottom.

Hope you enjoyed today’s creations and a few more tips for making Shaker cards.

Butterfly Shaker

Hi!  It’s shaker time in my craft room as I prepare for Friday night’s Shaker Card class!  These cards are so much fun to make! Today’s card I actually made for this week’s Global Design Project #GDP049 color challenge – Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo and Pear Pizzazz.

SU! Butterfly punches

It took me a bit as I wanted to capture the colors behind each butterfly – and I used different shaker beads in the little butterfly than in the two bigger ones.  The shaker elements are actually retired beads that I have had for quite some time.

If you haven’t made a shaker card before – or have struggled, here are a few tips that I am going to share with class attendees on Friday night.

  1. If stamping an image to show through the window, lay your die cut panel on top of the panel you wish to stamp on – stamp through the window to make alignment easier (this is done before you add the window sheet in the next tip)
  2. Make sure you adhere your window sheet to the back of your punched or die-cut panel BEFORE adding your dimensional strips.  (Ask me how I know!)
  3. If using just punched images (ie – no stamping) – just make sure to leave enough room around each image to place your dimensional strips.
  4. Place your dimensional strips as close to your die cut holes as possible – this allows you to use less shaker material to have it show in the window.
  5. For most projects, you will need to add dimensionals to your corners (I found I needed 2 to match the thickness of the dimensional strips used for the shaker part of the card.

Hope these tips help – and you can avoid some of the mistakes I made when starting out making shaker cards.

Don’t forget to use those Bonus Day Coupons before August 31st and to get your Thoughtful Branches stamp set and/or bundle!

Butterfly Birthday

Hi!  Sorry for being MIA this past week – but I had an order to fill – and needed to crank down and get it done.  It is done and I am back!   Today  I have a butterfly swing card to share with you.  I found the technique here by Julia Davison.

SU! Butterfly Basics, SU! Layering Squares

I love how the butterfly panel moves with the card.  The recipient should hold the corner of the butterfly panel when they open the card.  Here is what the inside looks like:

SU! Butterfly Basics, SU! Layering Squares

The colors for this card are Soft Sky, Calypso Coral and Garden Green.  The fern was stamped three times without adding any extra ink.  Love the depth this stamping adds to the main panel.

I also love the different fold!!  We made this at a workshop recently – I’d love to come show you and your friends how to make it!

Two quick reminders for you today –

  1. The Thoughtful Branches bundle is available through August 31st or while supplies last – this is such a versatile bundle (I’ll be posting projects soon!) – so don’t delay ordering it!
  2. If you earned Bonus Day coupons, they expire on August 31st – so make sure you use them this month!!  (And yes, you can use multiple coupons on one order AND you can use them to get the Thoughtful Branches bundle!)

More Hugs

Hi!  I have another card for you today using the Bear Hugs set as well as Layered Letters.  I hadn’t done a Waterfall card in quite a while and thought it would be fun to do for this weeks Global Design Project challenge #GDP020 – CASE the designer!  I was inspired by the theme of Connie’s card.

Stampin' Up! Layered Letters, Bear Hugs

The fun thing about Waterfall cards – they are interactive!  When you pull down on the ribbon, you reveal a hidden message:

Stampin' Up! Layered Letters, Bear Hugs

Each letter flips up and then slides behind – pretty cool!

I also decided to add a message to the inside of the card itself – I don’t often do that – but thought this little guy is just too cute with his message:

Stampin' Up! Bear Hugs

I had fun playing along with the GDP challenge this week – hope you will check it out via the link above and play along, too.  They are a great site for inspiration!

If you want to try a hand at making your own waterfall card, here are a few tips:

  1. Your moving strip is 8″ x 1 1/2″ – scored at 1 1/2″, 2 1/4″, 3″, and 3 3/4″.
  2. The chocolate chip strip across the bottom is only attached using brads – DO NOT USE ADHESIVE
  3. The white moving strip is attached ONLY to the chocolate chip strip – after folding on the 3 3/4″ score line, attach the front bottom edge of the moving strip to the chocolate chip strip – aligning the two edges.  The back of the white moving strip should be underneath the chocolate chip strip.
  4. L O V E are on 1 3/8″ squares and matted on 1 1/2″ Rose Red squares.
  5. When attaching the letters to the moving strip, start with the E and build your way up to the L.  Place Tear & Tape right below each of the score lines to attach the V, O and L.

I hope my tips help!
