One of the Harder Ones

….in more ways than one.  Sympathy cards are very hard for me to make – it may just be the reason for needing one, but I do tend to struggle when making this type of card.   It will be a little harder yet with the retirement of the “Thoughts and Prayers” stamp set used to make this card.

Sympathy, Thoughts & Prayers, Starry Night, Stampin' Up!, SU!, Waterfront

I went with (or tried to anyway) a “starry night” sky using the Waterfront stamp set (think sand from that set).  This was stamped in Versamark and embossed with White Embossing powder.  I then sponged Crumb Cake and Old Olive ink on the bottom of the cardstock to represent the ground.  Three colors of ink were sponged for the sky – retiring colors Tempting Turquoise and Island Indigo with the final layer being Night of Navy.  I am pretty happy with how the colors blended – tho I think I could have used a few more “stars” in the top corners.

After creating the background, I stamped the tree in Basic Black Archival ink.   The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes – another set that is retiring and that I’ll miss.  This is punched out with the Classic Label punch.  A bit of Crumb Cake ink was sponged on this piece to   soften the look of the Whisper White.

What type of card do you struggle with making?

Don’t forget, today is the last day that the following retiring colors are guaranteed for ink pads and refills.  After today, these color products will be available “while supplies last”.    Card stock is already at “while supplies last”.

You’ll find all the supplies to make the above card in my on-line store.  Please consider using Hostess Code: 4CKMSHRT for orders less than $150.  (US, prior to S/H and tax).
