Mixing the New and the Old

Hi!  How are you today?  Today I have a card for you that pairs the new and the old.

Forever Fern, Sympathy, Stampin' Up!, SU!, Kindness and Compassion, #2020AnnualCatalog, #2020InColors

The new:  Forever Fern Stamp Set, Just Jade In Color Ink

The old: Kindness and Compassion (Retired)

My mom passed away back in June and I wanted to make thank you cards for those that reached out with food, donations to her charities and expressions of sympathy.  I love the Kindness and Compassion set – it will forever be in my collection.   The Forever Fern was the first bundle I bought from the new catalog when it was available.   I just recently purchased the new 2020-2022 In Colors and decided to give Just Jade a shot – OH.MY.GOODNESS – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this color.   It is gorgeous!

After a few different attempts at color combinations, I finally settled on this one – Flirty Flamingo, Just Jade and Gray Granite.    I also loved Highland Heather, Just Jade and Gray Granite – but my mom hated the color purple, so I went with Flirty Flamingo for these.

If you are looking for a set that can be used for pretty much any occasion and any gender, take a good look at the Forever Fern bundle.  It is one of my Top 10 must haves in this new catalog.

The base for this card is Very Vanilla, I liked the softer look for this card.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Lighthouse

Hi!  Today I have a card for you using the Sail Away Bundle in the Annual Catalog.  I love lighthouses, and couldn’t resist this set.

Sail Away, Lighthouse, Stampin' Up!, SU!, Masculine, #2019AnnualCatalog

The Lighthouse and Wheel were stamped in Gray Granite ink and then watercolored with an AquaPainter and Old Olive, Night of Navy and Gray Granite ink.   I love the soft shading to the light house.

A hole was cut in the Whisper White layer using the Layering Circles Framelits.  A piece of the Sail Away Designer Series Paper was attached behind it.  Gray Granite and Night of Navy Cardstock were used for the base and mat respectively.

  • Base Gray Granite:  4 1/4″ x 11″ – score at 5 1/2″
  • Mat layer Night of Navy – 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Top layer Whisper White – 3 3/4″ x 5″
  • Circle cut-out – 2 1/2″
  • Designer Series Paper behind cut-out 2 3/4″ x 2 3/4″

The Come Sail Away trinkets and Baker’s Twine were used to embellish the card.  A great card that could be used for many occasions including sympathy.

Don’t forget, the Buy 3 Get 1 Free Designer Series Paper sale ends on Sept 30.    You’ll find the participating packs in my on-line store.

One of the Harder Ones

….in more ways than one.  Sympathy cards are very hard for me to make – it may just be the reason for needing one, but I do tend to struggle when making this type of card.   It will be a little harder yet with the retirement of the “Thoughts and Prayers” stamp set used to make this card.

Sympathy, Thoughts & Prayers, Starry Night, Stampin' Up!, SU!, Waterfront

I went with (or tried to anyway) a “starry night” sky using the Waterfront stamp set (think sand from that set).  This was stamped in Versamark and embossed with White Embossing powder.  I then sponged Crumb Cake and Old Olive ink on the bottom of the cardstock to represent the ground.  Three colors of ink were sponged for the sky – retiring colors Tempting Turquoise and Island Indigo with the final layer being Night of Navy.  I am pretty happy with how the colors blended – tho I think I could have used a few more “stars” in the top corners.

After creating the background, I stamped the tree in Basic Black Archival ink.   The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes – another set that is retiring and that I’ll miss.  This is punched out with the Classic Label punch.  A bit of Crumb Cake ink was sponged on this piece to   soften the look of the Whisper White.

What type of card do you struggle with making?

Don’t forget, today is the last day that the following retiring colors are guaranteed for ink pads and refills.  After today, these color products will be available “while supplies last”.    Card stock is already at “while supplies last”.

You’ll find all the supplies to make the above card in my on-line store.  Please consider using Hostess Code: 4CKMSHRT for orders less than $150.  (US, prior to S/H and tax).

Watercolor Sympathy

Hi.  How are you today?  I hope doing well.  Did you get some crafty time in over the weekend?  I did!  I had a class on Friday night featuring the Sharing Sweet Thoughts RMHC set and then on Saturday I did a workshop for a lovely hostess.  One of the cards I shared with them, was this card on Watercoloring.

Artistically Asian, Teeny Tiny Wishes, Watercoloring, SU!, Stampin' Up!The background is created using an Aquapainter and watercolor paper.  The colors from bottom to top are Crumb Cake, Old Olive and Pool Party.  The image is stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink.   I was very happy with how it turned out and the guests just loved it.

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and is stamped in Basic Black Archival ink as well.

The base layer is 5 1/2 x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″ on the 8 1/2″ side.  The Crumb Cake layer is 4 x 5 1/4″.  The water color paper is 2 1/2 x 4 1/4″ making the black layer 2 3/4 x 4 1/4″.  I tied a piece of Linen Thread around the image to finish it off.  This is a very quick card and just needs a little drying time – which you can speed up with a heat gun if needed.  I highly recommend letting the watercolor dry completely before stamping the image.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project!  You can find all elements used on this card in my on-line store here.
